A bold, mid-century abstract composition in gouache (or mixed media on paper), signed "C. Riboud" in black at the lower right. The work is built from a confident vocabulary of interlocking geometric and organic forms — a totemic, column-like figure in ivory white and warm terracotta rises against a deep cobalt-blue ground, flanked by dark, angular planes and crowned by softly overlapping spheres rendered in dusty blue and grey.
The palette — saturated ultramarine, burnt orange, black, and chalky white — combined with the flattened, faceted treatment of form, places the painting firmly within the Cubist-influenced abstraction that flourished in French painting circles from the interwar years through the mid-20th century, echoing the geometric austerity of artists like Fernand Léger, Albert Gleizes, and the Purist movement. The paint is applied with real physicality — thick, textured strokes are visible throughout, giving the surface an almost sculptural quality up close.
The painting is presented in a later, simple natural pine frame with a cream mat, ready to hang.
