A striking example of Miguel Berrocal's celebrated "dismountable" puzzle sculptures, Cristina presents a stylized, abstracted bust-and-torso form rendered in high-polish nickel-plated metal, its surface faceted into dozens of precisely interlocking geometric elements that can be fully disassembled and reassembled by hand — the hallmark of Berrocal's practice. The piece is raised on a stepped, architectural foot, with a small cream enamel medallion bearing the artist's incised "B" monogram set into one lobe of the composition. Berrocal, who divided his career between Spain and Italy, collaborated with fine-art foundries to produce these intricate multiples, which range from pocket-sized "micro" editions to monumental public commissions; Cristina belongs to the small-scale puzzle series that made his work widely collected internationally.
