French Art Deco bronze sculpture in lost-wax casting by Amedeo Gennarelli, depicting a kneeling female nude in an expressive, twisted pose. The young woman, set on a naturalistic base, arches backward with her head thrown back and arms stretched upward, emphasizing the tension in her torso and the sensuality of her curves. The supple modelling of the body, with blended volumes and carefully worked surfaces, catches the light on the dark patina and highlights the delicate musculature and grace of the gesture, features characteristic of the female figures for which Gennarelli is particularly sought after.
Amedeo Gennarelli, sculptor, was born in 1881 in Naples, Italy, but emigrated to Paris in 1913 and worked there until 1930, exhibiting at numerous Salons of the Societé des Artistes Francais. He is known for his work in the Art Deco style and for his depictions of the female nude, working in bronze, terra-cotta and wood.
