Elegant French Art Deco dining suite in solid and veneered oak, attributed to Maxime Old, comprising a large rectangular dining table and six side chairs. The table presents a sober, architectural silhouette with a thick, overhanging top resting on twin pedestal supports joined by a low stretcher. Each pedestal is formed by clustered uprights on a stepped plinth base with bronze‑trimmed sabots, giving the ensemble a quiet monumentality typical of French modernism of the 1940s.
The oak top displays a beautiful quarter‑sawn grain and is refined with a central inlaid panel framed by a delicate perimeter of small-point marquetry, adding a discreet decorative focus while preserving the table’s rigorous geometry. The six side chairs echo the same vocabulary: rectilinear backs very slightly raked for comfort, crisp seat rails, and sharply tapered legs which lighten the profile and anchor the group visually around the table. Upholstered in a light, neutral woven fabric, the backs and seats contrast elegantly with the warm honey‑brown oak frames; a horizontal relief band across the lower back adds a subtle rhythm that recalls Maxime Old’s pared‑back, architectural detailing.
