A fine "Saint-Denis" tazza by René Lalique, model no. 388, illustrated in the maker's own 1932 catalogue at a period height of 170mm. Rendered in Lalique's characteristic smoke grey-tinted glass, the piece is designed with a wide, shallow hemispherical bowl raised on a bold knopped stem — its surface molded in relief with a cluster of rounded bosses interspersed with small birds, set atop a broad, flat circular foot.
The "Saint-Denis" model is a hallmark example of Lalique's Art Deco tableware production of the early 1930s, pairing an architecturally simple bowl form with a sculptural, nature-inspired stem — a signature Lalique juxtaposition of restraint and ornament. The engraved "R. Lalique France" signature to the underside confirms production during René Lalique's own lifetime, prior to his death in 1945.
