A striking mid-century Italian lantern-form pendant in hand-blown Murano glass, attributed to Barovier & Toso. The bell-shaped shade is executed in the maker's signature textured "graniglia" or "rugiadoso" technique — glass rolled in crushed granules while molten to create a heavily frosted, ice-like surface that scatters and diffuses light beautifully when illuminated. The lower edge is scalloped and studded with a ring of applied glass prunts (bosses), adding sculptural dimension and catching light along the rim. A tapering fluted glass neck in the same textured finish connects the shade to its original brass ceiling canopy and chain suspension.
When lit, the pendant glows with a warm, honeyed luminosity, the granular texture creating a soft, atmospheric diffusion characteristic of the finest Murano lighting of the period — ideal for an entry, stair hall, or intimate dining space where a strong sculptural silhouette and warm ambient glow are desired.
