A fine pair of French Art Deco nightstands (chevets) in rosewood veneer, each fitted with two drawers and raised on gracefully tapering cabriole legs terminating in gilt-bronze sabots. The shaped tops have canted front corners echoed in the case below, and each drawer front is banded in ebonized trim with a pair of ring-form gilt-bronze pulls. Ornamental gilt-bronze foliate chutes accent the front leg junctions, and a pierced, shaped apron with brass edging runs beneath the lower drawer. One table retains its original working lock and key. Warm figured rosewood veneer throughout, in a lustrous French polish finish.
Recently professionally restored and in excellent condition, with the finish, hardware, and drawer joinery all in fine working order.
This model corresponds to a bedroom suite ("Travail Français, vers 1920") sold at Millon & Associés, Paris–Drouot Montaigne, 2 April 1998 ("Art Nouveau / Art Déco," expertise by Cabinet Camard, Jean-Marcel Camard), lot 251 — comprising an armoire, a bed, and a pair of matching chevets in rosewood veneer with bronze mounts
