Superb French Art Deco plafonnier by Le Verre Français, the celebrated line of cameo glass created by Charles Schneider at the Verreries Schneider in Épinay-sur-Seine between 1918 and 1932.
The thick, blown glass bowl is composed of layered, mottled opalescent white and soft pink glass overlaid with a vibrant red “Tango” layer, then acid-etched to reveal stylised pendant floral/fruit motifs and scrolling tendrils in relief, a hallmark of Le Verre Français production.
When lit, the shade glows in graduated tones from deep ruby to warm orange, emphasising the rhythmic Art Deco decoration around the circumference.
The glass is mounted in a finely cast gilt-bronze ring with foliate relief and suspended from matching chains and a decorative ceiling canopy, typical of period French fittings used with Schneider plafonniers.
Le Verre Français pieces were marketed through leading Parisian department stores such as Galeries Lafayette and Le Printemps, offering high-quality, modern design to a wide public, and remain highly sought after today for their bold colour and graphic natural motifs.
